Prohibited fireworks include firecrackers of any size, including lady fingers, black cats, M80s, and cherry bombs. Also prohibited are aerial devices such as bottle rockets, sky rockets, missiles, roman candles, aerial spinners, planes, parachutes, UFOs, chasers, mortars and aerial shells. These consumer fireworks cannot be used on public property nor are they allowed to be used within the city limits. MINNESOTA CITY PARK Keep an eye open this summer for some new updates the the City Park. PERMIT AND FEE SCHEDULES Building permits are required within the City for additions, remodeling, replacing siding and windows, sidewalks, or concrete work. Permits are currently not required for general maintenance items or re-shingling a roof. Building permits must be approved by the City Council at a regular meeting before you can begin the project. Applications for a building permit can be obtained from Mayor Don O’Neil at Don’s Auto Body or from the City Clerk at email mncity@hbci.com or by mail P.O. Box 102 Minnesota City, MN 55959. The current fees for a single home residential addition or garage are $50 or for a smaller improvement or exterior changes such as siding or storage shed are $20. WASTE WATER TREATMENT PLANT The care and maintenance of the wastewater collection system and treatment plant is the responsibility of all users. Misuse of the system will increase the monthly user fees by adding more maintenance costs. The collection system has very low daily flows to keep wastewater mains flushed out. It is up to all users to do their part in proper use of the pumps and the wastewater system. Misuse can be traced back to the source. Things that can and will cause problems in the system are items that do not break down naturally. There are many items but here are a few major ones: • Cloth rags • Baby wipes • Baby diapers • Cooking grease and oils • Feminine hygiene products • Paper towels • Paint • Condoms • Any plastic • Needles and Prescription Drugs We have been having issues of homeowners flushing feminine items and flushable wipes down the drains. Our system cannot handle these items. Please do not flush these or any of the above items. If these items continue to get flushed down the drain, the monthly sewer service fee will go up as pumps will have to be replaced more often. ***Please use low phosphate products. Our sewer system cannot break down phosphates like larger systems can.*** WASTE WATER TREATMENT PLANT BILLING CYCLE All wastewater service connections into the municipal wastewater system should already be hooked up. Payments can be dropped off at Don’s Auto Body or mailed to the City of Minnesota City at 149 Mill St., P.O. Box 102, Minnesota City, MN 55959. Payments can be made monthly or multiple months can be paid at one time. Please include the payment stub with your name and address written on the stub. Any questions can be directed to the City Clerk or any of the council members listed above. DOG LICENSES ARE NOW DUE FOR 2019 City ordinance requires that all dog owners must purchase a license for their dogs 6 months or older. A rabies certificate must be presented when making the license application. Dogs should receive an initial rabies vaccination at 4-6 months of age with a booster one year later and then a rabies vaccination every 2 years thereafter. The license is $5.00 for a spayed or neutered dog and $10.00 for a dog who has not been spayed or neutered. After May 1, a late fee of $10.00 will be added. Licenses can be obtained by contacting the City Clerk (mncity@hbci.com) 689-2480 or by mail P.O. Box 102 Minnesota City, MN 55959) or at Don’s Auto Body.
